Food… Glorious Food

We all know and love the western version of Mexican food. However, beyond the wall of tacos, enchiladas, fajitas and tortillas lies a fantastic cuisine that is difficult to experience without visiting the region. Mexican cuising features many regional specialities and we’ve been enjoying sampling some Yucatanian favourites. For example:

  • Lime chicken soup - Chicken stock & shredded chicken, lime, lemon, and parsley which is poured over crisp tortilla strips (see picture below)
  • Pollo Zac Yuk - Char-grilled chicken surrounded by a corn maize puree and topped with a think chutney of raisins, almonds, chili, tomato, capers and olives

Actually, the more traditional dishes incorporate ingredients introduced by the Spanish. The local cuisines also appear to be making a resurgence in popularity. Check out the tasty pics below!

Yum! I am going through quite a Mexican eating phase at the moment. Am going to roll up my sleeves and have a crack at mole sauce soon…

Uh hem - isn’t someone here a vegetarian? Wouldn’t picking shredded chicken out of soup be a bit tricky?!
